In short, laser is mono-chromatic, that is, one specific wavelength. IPL is poly-chromatic, which uses multiple wavelengths. However, not all IPL’s and lasers are the same, these are just generic terms –it’s a bit like comparing cars: hatch-backs vs sedans. You need to know what make and model it is: within that make, how good the engine is, if it’s been properly serviced and how it has been maintained etc. The light that is emitted at a particular wavelength is the same whether it is laser or IPL.
What will vary is:
The energy level – how powerful the system is.
The pulse width – which impacts depth of penetration and safety
The wavelength – If the wavelength is not ideal for a particular treatment, it doesn’t matter if you have the best laser or IPL, it will not deliver the best result.
