Dermatitis + Eczema

What is dermatitis or eczema

It is a general term used to describe dry, itchy & inflamed skin conditions.
The most common are:
-Atopic Eczema/Dermatitis
-Perioral Dermatitis
-Seborrheic Dermatitis
-Contact Dermatitis
Steroid withdrawal and Ichthyosis are not types of dermatitis but do present very similar on the skin.

Perioral dermatitis presents as a red, inflamed and irritated looking rash around the mouth, chin, nose and can spread up to the eyes. It can cause, itching, burning, flaking and may appear like hives or tiny bumps. It can be mistaken for acne/congestion.. it affects mainly women between 18-50 years.
The main causes/triggers are:

  • Hormonal changes
  • Stress
  • Anti-biotics
  • Steroid oral inhalers & creams
  • Skincare/personal products especially toothpaste with fluoride
  • Gut Health & Diet
  • Alcohol especially yeast based drinks and wine
  • Fungal Overgrowth

Dermatitis can occur at any age from babies to the elderly, it occurs when there is a weakened skin barrier, causing low levels of water and oil in the skin and poor functioning immune cells leading to a reactive skin.

Genetics:

Filaggrin, which is a skin protein responsible for creating a healthy skin barrier and producing our natural moisturising factors, has been found to have a gene mutation in people with dermatitis. This can make individuals more reactive to other stimulants that potentially cause dermatitis or make it worse.

Your gut health has a direct link to your skin. It is so important to invest in your gut health and help your digestive functioning by feeding it with good bacteria and reducing high histamine and inflammatory foods which can make dermatitis worse. Your skin is a true representation of what is going on in your gut.

Histamine is a chemical in the body that is released in response to a stimulant. It can be responsible for itchiness, hives, swelling and inflammation. Histamine is usually a good thing unless it builds up in the body. Excess histamine can lead to an intolerance.

Our gut has a particular enzyme that is responsible for removing and breaking down histamine. If our gut health and stomach acid are poor then this enzyme will not function properly leading to higher histamine levels and inflammation in the body.

When the gut health is not functioning well, our lymphatic system is impacted. Poor lymphatic functioning leads to dirty blood, excess toxins and increased fluid retention. The skin is an excretory organ, meaning that it will purge and push out toxins, when the lymphatic system is blocked. This can result in skin conditions such as acne, inflammation, dermatitis.

Supplementing with Vitamin C and B6 help to increase this enzyme to reduce histamine.

Foods high in histamine will also cause further flare ups. Supporting the skin with complete omega fatty acids are essential to lowering inflammation, improving cell to cell communication and signaling with reduce flare ups and strengthen the skins barrier.

A series of LED treatments can help speed up healing, reduce inflammation and stimulate cells, with an increase in collagen production by as much as 200%

LED Skin Therapy is a MUST HAVE treatment for:

How many treatments do I need?

A series on 6 to 12 treatments is recommended. The research found that 20-minute LED treatment for 6 weeks had a positive smoothing effect in 83% of subjects and improved skin tone for an incredible 91%.

XEN LED Therapy

Looking to improve your skin health and appearance with a non-invasive, gentle treatment? Xen LED could be the perfect solution for you!

Its cutting-edge technology can improve hydration, stimulate collagen and elastin production, and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Plus, it’s perfect for reducing inflammation from treatments like peels, skin needling, cosmetic injectables, and surgery.

Depending on the skin condition being treated, it can emit intense levels of Red, Near Infra-Red (NIR), or Blue Light.

Blue LED Light

Due to its shorter wavelength, the blue spectrum of light penetrates tissue relatively little. Numerous studies have demonstrated that blue light consistently reduces acne lesions by a significant amount.

The Blue LEDs are strategically placed to provide a purifying anti-bacterial effect on the surface of the skin, eradicating the bacteria that causes inflammation during breakouts. Blue light reacts with bacteria using a biological process of programmed cell death.

Red and NIR Light

Red and NIR light can penetrate the skin more deeply than any other visible color. This natural energy surge speeds up wound healing and helps to reduce inflammation. Red and NIR light promotes natural skin renewal, toning, and rejuvenation, as well as hair regrowth.

During your initial consultation, your Zenyu skin therapist will decide between the Red and/or Infra-Red Light Modes.

XEN LED is a medical-grade LED that is an effective treatment for the following skin concerns:
  • Acne
  • Rosacea
  • Fine Lines and Wrinkles
  • Pigmentation

What to expect during the treatment

XEN LED is safe and suitable for all skin types and is safe for women who are breastfeeding.

You will lay on the bed during a Xen LED treatment while the device is placed above the treatment area. The light is quite bright, so you’ll need to wear protective goggles. We can assure that the machine doesn’t emit any ultraviolet light that could burn your skin or cause premature aging.

The treatment usually lasts about 15 to 20 minutes.

You can resume work and social activities right away after the treatment because your skin will look completely normal.
